Proctocolectomy is a surgical procedure that is primarily used as the standard way to rid a patient of otherwise uncontrollable symptoms of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, but may also be an intervention for colon and rectal cancers, intestinal bleeding and congenital defects. It involves the removal of the colon (large intestine) and rectum, followed either by ileostomy or ileo anal reservoir bowel diversion surgery to provide the patient with a means of getting rid of body waste.

The physicians at Carrollwood Surgical Associates in Tampa have considerable experience with proctocolectomy and other colorectal surgeries. Many primary care physicians from across the region refer their patients with persistent symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease for our consultation and treatment. If you or a loved one are in need of a highly experienced general surgeon with advanced expertise in colorectal procedures and an unsurpassed dedication to patient care, contact us at 813.933.3324 or fill out an online appointment request form today.
